Black Crater

Sept. 15, 2010 - Sliverfox (Brad) and Da BigDog (Ronnie) had planned on hiking in to Moraine Lake and spending a couple of nights. Then climb South Sister but the forest service closed all trailheads in to the area for tree removal. So we did a 8 mile day hike to the top of Black Crater which is off the old Mackenzie highway. This is the scenic highway that Kelly and Karl thought was a short cut to Sunriver last summer NOT.          Brad's photos

the trail started out in the trees

a pile of rocks marked the halfway point and a controlled forest fire burn
